About the Artist
Just like everyone else, I began my life as a child. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, raised partly by my paternal grandparents in Mississippi and after my dad re-married, lived the remaining years of life prior to adulthood in St. Louis. Some of my art reflects on earlier country days and nights spent in the South as it was a very unencumbered lifestyle and left me feeling free spirited. All the walks through the open fields and down dirt and gravel roads cleared my head of all thought and allowed me to feel with all my senses. Exploring, fishing, imagining was the way I spent my days there and I will always have wonderful memories of those times.
My senses are keenly aware of many things and I attribute that to spending much of my time alone in the country taking it all in and just feeling it. I love to touch, smell, and look at everything. When I paint, it is not unusual for me to use items I can touch in the work, example, sand. The 3-D look is something I strive to achieve...not just for the visual eye, but to make the work come alive and visit with the viewer.
I am completely self taught. A long time ago I had the desire to paint like Michelangelo or DaVinci and my work reflected that softer, more detailed touch. Now, I see my work to be more of my true self rather than an imitation of someone else. To me, that is a very good thing.
Invitations to create new things is what I thrive on. After a very long drought of several years where I didn't create anything, I am happy to say that I am very prolific now. Every day is filled with new ideas, concepts, and work. My dream to be a full time artist is now being fulfilled and I am very, very excited about it all! Please don't hesitate to send me your personal wish for a piece of art you have in mind because I love the challenge of creation!
